Supplemented emergency exit or emergency release

New RFID-solenoid interlock AZM 300 with extended functions

Almost two years ago, Schmersal introduced an entirely new concept for solenoid interlocks with the basic model of the AZM 300. Now, the series is extended with versions that have an emergency exit or alternative emergency release. These additional safety functions are useful, for example, when a safety locking device is used to secure a walk-in hazardous areas.

The emergency exit allows people who accidentally get locked in the hazardous area of a machine or plant to leave the area quickly (such as during cleaning or maintenance). The AZM 300 is designed as a red, highly visible lever, which is attached on the inside of the door and when at risk can be intuitively operated without any previously knowledge of the function. The locking function can be restored by turning the lever to its original position.

The emergency release allows opening the door from the outside, for example when the mains power supply is interrupted and/or when in danger (fire etc.). Here, due to manipulation protection reasons - according to the standard - a repair effort is to be made to restore operational readiness. The Schmersal engineers have found a solution for this requirement in the new variants.

Both of these functions have been realized in a very compact form so that the AZM 300 in the new version with emergency exit or emergency release can be mounted anywhere and needs little space.

The innovative, patented operating principle with rotating shaft and capstan handle is one of the unique features of the AZM 300. The advantage is that the safety door, when in a close position can be pulled-to and held with practically no free-play. The solenoid interlock is therefore used as a door stop, which eliminates the need for the use of a separate door stop. The integrated and adjustable locking ensures that the door remains in the locked position after the interlock is released and does not pop open on its own (such as with vibrations).

Another advantage of the AZM 300 is the manipulation protection with high levels of encoding, optionally with multiple teachable, universal or individual coding. This is made possible by the integration of RFID technology in the safety sensor.
