A grand opening celebration was held for our new Indianapolis location on September 6, 2024.

A day at Schmersal Indianapolis
The day started at the new facility with a reception under the big tent outside. Phillip Schmersal spoke to the assembled crowd of Schmersal employees, regional sales representatives and distributors, and local guests. He stated how excited he was to expand the company in the US market with this opening and that we could proudly start adding “Made in America” to Schmersal products very soon. The day portion of the event ended with a ribbon cutting ceremony and a tour of the facility.
Our new Indianapolis warehouse is a state-of-the-art, 16,000 square foot industrial/flex facility, strategically positioned on 3.18 acres near the Indianapolis Airport. This significant investment in a centralized warehousing operation not only enhances our capacity to deliver tailored safety solutions but also strengthens our systems and solutions business. As we look to the future, this facility also offers us the flexibility to expand, ensuring that we remain at the forefront of evolving safety solutions.
Art installation
To mark the grand opening, we were presented with a special gift, which now decorates the entrance area of the building. The picture shows the locations of all Schmersal production sites on a world map, which are connected by the Indianapolis Motor Speedway track. The picture consists of 12 panels and measures 6 foot high & 11 foot long overall.
The picture also features 3D prints of landmarks from our production countries:
- Germany: Schwebebahn suspended train
- Brasil: Cristo Redentor
- China: Oriental Pearl Tower, Shanghai Tower & Shanghai World Financial Center
- India: India Gate
These landmark models were created by the production staff in Wuppertal who were involved in the design, 3D printing, and hand painting of the models.
Celebration banquet
Later that evening, a dinner was held at the SILO Auto Club and Conservancy in Downtown Indianapolis. Before dinner was served, we were allowed to wander their giant showroom and view their collection of vintage and restored sports cars.
Guest Speaker
As the evening unfolded, we were privileged to hear from our special guest speaker, Sarah Fisher, professional racecar driver (retired) and race team owner.
Sarah spoke to us about her days in racing, lessons in leadership she learned, and the importance of being a team player. Her insights on leadership and teamwork resonated deeply with our mission.
