Schmersal Expands Heavy Industry Safety Portfolio with New Stainless Steel Emergency Stop Pull-Wire Switch
The Schmersal Group is expanding its range of safety switches for heavy industry with the introduction of the new ZQ901 emergency stop pull-wire switch, featuring a robust stainless steel housing designed for harsh and demanding operating environments.
The new ZQ901 complements the established ZQ900 series and has been developed for applications where equipment is exposed to aggressive media, corrosive cleaning agents, high-pressure washdowns, and challenging environmental conditions. The stainless steel housing provides enhanced mechanical and chemical resistance while maintaining the same dimensions and mounting points as the standard ZQ900 model. This enables users to upgrade existing installations easily when a more durable solution is required.
The ZQ901 is suitable for ambient temperatures from -25 °C to +70 °C and complies with protection classes IP65, IP67 and IP69 in accordance with EN 60529. These characteristics make the switch particularly well suited for heavy industrial applications, as well as hygiene-sensitive environments and the chemical industry.
Suitable for Hygiene-Sensitive Applications
Production facilities operating under strict hygiene requirements are frequently subjected to intensive cleaning procedures involving aggressive chemicals and high-temperature, high-pressure water jets. In these environments, equipment must withstand repeated exposure to demanding cleaning processes without compromising reliability.
The stainless steel housing and the blue watertight collar of the ZQ901 provide optimal protection against mechanical stress and harsh cleaning chemicals, helping ensure long-term performance in such conditions. As a result, the switch is suitable for transport and conveyor systems, production facilities, and other large-scale installations in hygiene-sensitive industries.
Emergency Stop Protection for Large Conveyor Systems
Like all switches in the ZQ900 series, the ZQ901 is designed to provide reliable emergency stop protection for conveyor systems and machines that require safeguarding over extended distances. The pull-wire emergency stop switch supports cable lengths of up to 75 meters, allowing the emergency stop command to be triggered from any point along the wire.
The switch actuates in the event of either wire pull or wire breakage. Like all emergency stop devices, it latches securely on actuation and must be manually reset once the situation has been resolved. It is available with 2 or 4 contacts in several contact configurations. When used in conjunction with a suitable safety evaluation unit, the ZQ901 can achieve Performance Level e (PL e) according to EN ISO 13849-1. Red coated cable, tension springs, and installation hardware is available.
