Safety Light Curtains with Bluetooth interface
Schmersal has an integrated Bluetooth interface in our Safety Light Curtains, as a standard feature, available on our SLC440COM and multifunctional SLC440 series.
These safety light curtains use the BluetoothTM Low Energy system for near-field data transmission, which provides secure data transmission up to 5 meters. The data transmitted from the safety light curtains with BluetoothTM interface is accessible by the Schmersal SLC Assist App, available for Android and iOS smartphones and tablets.

BENEFITS OF THE BLUETOOTH INTERFACE
This unprecedented access to the operational data of the Safety Light Curtain has many advantages:
Installation alignment
The app can display the signal strength of each beam when you align the light curtain, making it easier to see how your adjustments are affecting the alignment. It also has a three-star rating for the alignment: One star is shown if the quality of the alignment needs to be improved; Three stars are displayed when the alignment is perfect.
Device and configuration data
With the device data you get general information about the light curtain such as the type, the serial number, the protective field resolution and the field height. Additionally, you can see which functions have been enabled and their parameterized settings. The SLC440 offers many integrated functions including fixed blanking, floating blanking, fixed blanking with movable edge region, double reset, contactor control (EDM), automatic mode, re-start mode, and beam coding.
Device status
With the display of the device status you see the signal strength of each individual beam in real time, the active operation mode, the status of the OSSD outputs and the status of the protective field. Since the status data of the light curtain can be accessed easily and in real-time, errors can be resolved quickly to achieve increased machine availability.
Service and maintenance
The app provides information such as operational hours and the number of switching cycles the safety light curtain has performed. This data is helpful in scheduling preventive maintenance, service cycles for safety relay modules, and defining the intervals for intermediate checks.
Documentation
Information on the active status of the light curtain can be saved to the smartphone or tablet. This facilitates the documentation after a functional or intermediate inspection. Additionally, this status information can be emailed from the app, to store it to your document server.

The SLC440 offers integrated fixed blanking, floating blanking, fixed blanking with movable edge region, double reset, contactor control (EDM), automatic mode, re-start mode, and beam coding. Set up is simplified as selection and configuration of these functions are made via a single push-button and the 7-segment display.
Both series are suited for use in safety circuits up to PLe (EN 13849) or SIL3 (IEC 61508). Both are also available with an IP69 Rated housing for washdown applications.
